Darren, a young mn with no memory, slumped odnw in his chair, honey-brown eyes staring blankly into the murky depths of the rum sitting before him. Soft brown hair shielded part of his face from the pubic, as he gripped the pint and took a deep swallow from the rum.
Weary eyes looked up briefly only to see a lady scantily clad making bedroom eyes at him. He raised an eyebrow at her, as he glared slightly. Darren wasn't looking for company, he just wanted to sit there, staring blankly at his dirnk. That sounded like fun, didn't it?
Snorting slightly at his thoughts, he shook his head, long hair flying about his face.

Walking along the uneven cobblestoned streets of Tortuga, Tyler made her way to the nearest pub, her stride long and even as she walked through groups and couple of both men and women, the men reeking of alcohol and sweat, the women clogging one's nostrils with overpowering, cheap perfume taken from scavenged and pirated ships. Wearing her usual, stained and faded whitish loose shirt and the simple, long unbuttoned vest over it, she also adorned a long coat of faded black that reached to the top of her worn brown leather boots that stopped just below her knees. The boots were something she didn't wear when sailing, for they were impractical when climbing int he rigging like a monkey, but when ashore, they were necessary, for broken glass littered the streets and excrement hung faintly like a still odor in the air, masked by the smells of sweat, dirt, alcohol and feminine scents of fashion.
Slipping into the pub, she paused, allowing her clear, light blue eyes to adjust to the dim lighting of the establishment's interior before walking to a small, vacant table and sitting down in one of the two chairs at it. A large black hankerchief was wrapped around her head, covering much of her forehead and allowing her hair to spill over the top, a few small braids mingling among her locks of sandy blonde.
With her breasts bound by a cloth wrapped around her chest and back around her back, she kept her eyes alert but not too suspicious, minding her own business while taking in the others of the pub. She could pass for a handsome lad, but there was always a bit of a regal, proud quality about her, something a past Captain had called 'officer material'. Right. Unless she'd missed the memo that the Navy was now calling women 'officer material', she was going to keep her head down and her nose clean, doing her duties and staying out of trouble, for the most part. Of course, in her present attire, there wasn't any real way of discerning that she was in the Navy, for her clothes were ordinary, the only bit of pirate-ish bauble being a long gold chain encircling her neck with a single pearl on it that was usually hidden under her shirt, and a small, dangling earring of a tear drop shaped, blood-red ruby.
Looking around, the nearest being was a young man, who seemed to prefer remaining undisturbed with his rum. Quirking a brow at his antisocial, solitary behaviour, she beckoned to the barmaid, and gestured for her to bring a second to the young man, as well as a pint for Tyler, herself.
"You a'righ', mate?"
She ventured, keeping her voice slightly lower and gruffer than natural.

Darren lifted his head to examine the young lad who had just stepped up to him. Nodding in thanks for the second pint of rum, he quickly downed the remaining gulps of his first. he looked blankly up at her for a moment, as if not comprehending with Tyler had asked him. Shaking his head, he nodded shortly.
"Yes, I'm fine." He replied briskly, a gruff tone in her voice. The lad before him seemed feminine, thugh masculine, if that made any sense. He eyed Tyler warily, unused to people up and out of the blue come up and start talking. Jerking the pint of rum, he took a few swallows of it, feeling it burn down his throat. He may not like rum, but he mostly drank it as that's what most bars sold.
"What's your name, boy?" he practically growled at the young lad, not trying to sound rude. "My name's Darren." he told him, as a vaiant effort t not sound so rude.

The man quickly swallowed the last bit of his initial mug after nodding a thanks to Tyler, and she found herself glancing over his frame. Usually, her eyes taking in someone would mean that she was sizing them up, but in this case, she was only just noticing that he was far from an eyesore. Far, indeed.
Taking a modest swig of her own wooden mug, she felt the first bit of alcohol begin to course her veins, although it wasn't yet having any affect, of course. Fine. Right. He seemed a bit glum, if anything, although there didn't yet seem to be any particular reason behind it. Narrowing her eyes a bit, it really quite seemed as if this man deemed himself worthier than she, as if she was a lowly, ten year old cabin boy.
Hardly.
She was a good twenty years of age, and had been sailing several years, although the light of luck had forsaken her long before then. Born to a whore, she'd had to learn to stick up for herself, especially after being taken in by a mean, rude aunt with two daughters of her own.
"Tyler."
She said with a hint of defiance and indignation, although it was gradually clear that this Darren character was making a small effort not to seem so rude and abrupt. Well, he'd bothered to introduce himself, so that was a start, at least.

Darren flashed the lad a quick smile, as he leaned back, now accustomed to her presence. Now-softened honey brown eyes eyed the girl by him, as he pushed some dark brown hair behind an ear. His hair, being stubborn just flopped back into his eyes, giving him a rugged look.
"Nice ta meet you, Tyler." he told Tyler softly. Darren wisely decided to remain silent about how he had turned proud and defiant. It was no wonder why, with the way he had been acting towards him.
"Sorry about my slightly rude behavior before. I'm afraid I'm un-used to people coming up and talking to me." He apologized to her, smiling in return. His attitude seemed to do a complete three-sixty. Oh well, that was his tendency.
"Mind telling me where your from?" he asked, hoping to start a conversation. It was a crappy question, but the silence had been deafening.

After receiving a sudden, quick smile, Tyler's eyes narrowed slightly, unsure as to what had brought upon the abrupt change in his mood. He seemed almost friendly, now, what with his next comment, and the apology for being a bit gruff. Strange. A man that actually apologized. But hell, Tyler wasn't complaining.
"Ah, well, I suppose it's mostly my fault, being the random conversationalist, and all."
She replied with a slight smile, shrugging as she took a swig of her mug, swallowing the rum before answering his question. It was random and almost a bit forward, and for a moment she wondered if he was a pirate, suspecting her to be one of the same. After all, pirates, like sailors, sailed all over, and one's roots could be far from one's feet.
"England, originally. I don't exactly refer to it as 'home', though."
She said, keeping it vague and simple. It was true; she didn't miss any of the places she'd lived on land, although the country of England itself had had a sort of pride about it that she'd been a bit fond of. Well, she signed up to serve her country, so I suppose it's best that she like it at least a little.
"And you?"
She ventured, deeming it only fair that he only the question he'd thrown unto her. Not many conversation topics were popping in her head, although she could tell that he didn't want it to die completely.

Darren shook his head, returning to his drink with a soft, wistful smile. His honey brown eyes were sad.
"I can't remember. About a year ago, I hit my head, and lost all memories, other than my name."
he told her briefly, glancing up at her. Judging by the lad's outlook, he was a pirate. To be expected, really. Especially on a pirate island.
" However, I consider the sea my home."
Darren told her, glancing out the window, as if hoping to see some bit of the sea. He decided to leave the girl to her strange way of being blunt yet vague, and not question it.
(Apologie son my short post. I'm still getting used to playing a guy who lost his memory. Blagh)

No worries; I'm still getting used to playing a guy at all, in another RP.]
Oh. That didn't sound good at all; Tyler thought she'd positively die if she lost her memory.
"Ah. Sorry, mate."
She said, in relevance to his bit of a problem with his memory. Lowering her eyes, she took a small swig, before glancing at his clothing. Pirate, it seemed, if anything.
"You on the accord?"
She said suddenly, asking him just to make sure. Most were pirates on this island, and she liked to know which ones were. Yes, another sudden, abrupt question. Oh well, he hadn't seemed to mind, so far, and it was nice to get replies; most of those she sailed with were too busy working, and she tried to keep her head down and her nose clean, when at sea under her Captain's jurisdiction. Attention might lead to slip ups.
"Yes, that I can quite understand and agree with."
She said, having the same feelings towards the sea. Reaching a slender hand up to make sure that the large bandanna was still snug over her forehead and hair, she felt her hair, for her locks fell over the black cloth to hang in a tousled manner about her face, the small, mingling braids giving her a bit of a piratical air. But appearances could be misleading.

Darren smiled softly, at her statement.
"Thanks."
He said, leaning back slightly and closing his eyes wearily for a brief moment.
"Yes, I'm on the accord." he answered her random, but understandable question. "How about you?" He asked, cracking an eye open to reveal one interested honey-brown eye.
Noticing the girl's blonde hair come out, he eealized just how feminine this lad was. Shrugging slightly, Darren just forgot about it. After all, he had met many feminine guys. Nothing to hold against a guy.
A flash of blurry images, and a sudden, harsh pain erupted over his forehead. Groaning slightly, he bent over. Rubbing his temples, he rested his elbows on the tables, hoping to get the pain to go away.

On the accord. So he was a pirate after all. Listening as he spoke, she bit her lip as the question was tossed back for her to answer, as well. Was she on the accord? Quite the opposite, actually; she sailed with men who fought pirates, under a Captain who despised pirates, and under oath to hunt them down.
No, she was not on the accord.
"No... no, I'm not."
She said hesitantly. Putting her worn, tri-cornered hat back on her head, her hair poked out from underneath, being the colour of hay, although it wasn't greasy like that of most of the Tortuga population.
"Far from it, although I've no personal hate for those who are."
She said, clarifying her personal position a bit. Although in the Royal Navy, she didn't actually hold a deep hatred for pirates and foreign buccaneers like some of her fellow sailors did aboard the Interceptor. As he bent over, clearly in pain, her more feminine instinct was to hurry and stand, maybe lay a hand on his shoulder, and make sure he was okay. But she was a sailor; a man. Womanly physical contact was a no no. Biting her lip again, her light blue eyes darted over him, trying to assess what was going on.
"What's wrong? You a'right, mate?"
Obviously not, but she didn't know enough to do anything.

Darren had to bite down on his lip for two different reasons. One was to hide his smile, and because the headache still hurt like hell. Shaking his head slightly, as the pain subsided slightly.
"Fine." he told her tersely, leaning back and massaging his temples firmly. Realizing that he must have sounded really rude, he looked the Tyler apologetically.
"Sorry. Slight headache." Darren told her simply, finally lowering his hands. He wasn't on the accord, yet hung out at a pirate island. Oh well, nothing to hold over somebody. Darren, himself, had no real idea as to why he was here, he just was.
"Not gonna wind up arresting me, are ya?" he asked, as more of a joke to divert the attention from his slight episode just now. It was lame, but ti would hopefully get the job done. Darren hoped so, at least.
he smiled gently at Tyler, attempting to ease the lad's unease. His 'episodes', as Darren called them, came more and frequently though he never heard anything and only saw a few vague, blurry images.

As he spat out a single syllable, she blinked, leaning back in her chair. Alrighty, then. When he apologized, she looked away, smirking slightly in amusement. He was apologizing. Again. Quite the gentleman, though he most likely didn't realize that she was one to notice. Yes, she'd been in the company of actualy gentlemen; ones that had wanted to ask for her hand. Ick. They'd been either old, snobby, shallow, rude, cruel, quite unexperienced with gaining a female's approval, or a little too experienced.
"Obviously. Does it happen often?"
She asked, for although he'd been caught by surprise slightly, he didn't seem too shocked at its occurance, as if it happened several times before. Chuckling slightly, she coughed once, trying to keep her voice at a lower pitch than was natural for her.
"No, I'm not going to arrest you. With manners like yours, you could be cleaned up a bit and almost pass for an officer or gentleman, instead of a pirate."
She pointed out, then realizing that he'd be quite capable of conning people. Of course, she hadn't witnessed his acting skills yet, unless he was good enough not to be detected. Pushing a short lock of unruly blonde hair behind her ear with a blink, she grabbed the crudely made handle of her wooden mug, lifting its rim to her lips and taking a small swig of the poorly made rum. Oh well; this was Tortuga; it wasn't exactly the place to find the finest of lifestyles.
